Fall into Fun

Kenzie Tomes, Staff Writer

As we enter into this ‘spooky season’ it’s important to ‘beware’ of all the fun activities that are going on in your area. Even if you’re like me and do not enjoy being spooked, the fall season is a beautiful time to get out and about with friends and loved ones – you don’t even have to go through a haunted house to take part in this spooky season!

In case you missed the Fall Festival in Evansville at the beginning of the month, we have our very own festival here in Owensboro. Friends and families travel from all around to Reid’s Orchard for a fun weekend of craft booths, yummy food, and exciting carnival rides. Reid’s Apple Festival will be held on the weekend of October 20th.

One of my favorite places to visit during the fall season is Trunnell’s Farm Market. There are so many fun activities to take part in at Trunnell’s. From the corn maze to the petting zoo, the Family Fun-Acre has something fun for customers of any age. A new event they are hosting this year is October Movie Night & Firework Show, which will be going on every Saturday night in October.

For the history buffs out there, the Haunts of Owensboro Ghost Tours began on the 7th and will continue throughout the month. These haunted trail rides through downtown Owensboro are excellent ways to learn about the gruesome hangings, haunts, and voodoo that once creeped throughout our streets. Both walking and carriage tours are offered, and tickets for these tours can be bought online.

Of course, if you are looking forward to the scares and screams this spooky season brings, I have heard The Courthouse Catacombs and The House of Lecter in Evansville, IN are terrifyingly good times. Only two blocks from one another, these haunted houses are sure to provide a safe but scary time! Dates, times, and locations can be found on their website.

I hope you all take advantage of these spook-tacular events and have a fang-tastic month
