How to Make Money as a Full-Time Student

Hailey Neal, Staff Writer

If there’s one thing people know about college students, it’s that we’re broke. Rather than asking your parents for some extra cash every month, earning your own income is much more rewarding, and there are several ways you can.

Get a part-time job: This one is the obvious solution, and probably the simplest. Owensboro is home to many restaurants, retail hubs, and other organizations looking for part-time work. The most important thing to do when searching for a position is to be clear about your availability. Make sure that any possible employer knows that your schedule changes every semester, especially if you’re involved in sports.

Apply for work-study: If you prefer to stay on campus, work-study jobs are a great way to complete your internship requirements while earning extra cash. There are positions all throughout campus, so be sure to talk to your advisor and to financial aid to see if you’re eligible.

Open an online store: If you are a creative person looking to sell your work, an online store is what you need. There are a few free platforms where you can do this, the most popular being Etsy. Here, you can sell paintings, crotched items, embroidery, digital art, and more.

Sign up for a delivery service: Doordash and Instacart are two delivery services active in Owensboro. With these services, you can work the hours that you want and not worry about work interfering with your schedule, a perfect job for a busy student.

Part-time jobs will look great on your resume, and whether you use your earnings to pay for snacks, rent, or books, there is something out there for every student.
