If you are from around the Owensboro Kentucky area or go to Kentucky Wesleyan College have you ever heard the name Joe Burke? Currently known as Joe Big or a.k.a. the Homerun King here at Kentucky Wesleyan College Joe Burke had 43 homeruns going into the 2021 season and now has already hit eight more in the 19 games that we have played in so far to make his homerun total at 51. With this he still has 20 more regular season games left to add on to his total homerun numbers. Here is a day in the life of Joe Big and how he has done so far, this 2021 season now that we are at the midway point of the season.
Opening Weekend in North Carolina
Starting the season off we traveled to North Carolina to play three games, two against Grand Valley State and then one against Ashland University who was ranked #17th in the nation in all of Division 2 baseball at the time. In the first two games Big Joe went four for eight meaning he got four hits out of the eight times he went up to hit. In both games against Grand Valley he had one double and a total of two runs batted in. The Ashland game, Big Joe was humbled a little bit and was not able to scratch across a hit out of his five at bats. This did not phase him at all moving forward into the next couple weekends of the baseball season.
DEMOLITION AGAINST OHIO VALLEY (March 26th-27th, 2021)
The Homerun Run King started to show his true colors during this four-game series against Ohio Valley which was the start of conference play. In the first game alone, he went three for four with one double and homerun making it his second of the season. In this game he also knocked in seven runs out of the 22 runs the Panthers scored in that game. He went on to go four for twelve and ended up hitting one more homerun to bring his total to three homeruns on the season.
BEAT DOWN ON FINDLAY (April 11th-12th, 2021)
This weekend against the Findlay Oilers the Panthers had a hit parade and scored 12 or more runs in all four games that were played. Joe Big lit up the score board for the panthers this weekend going six for thirteen in all his at bats with seven runs batted and added two more homeruns to his name to make his total homerun number eight and being the leader on the team in that category at the half-way point of the season.
To say the least this man is on fire when he steps into the batter’s box and any pitcher should be scared to face Joe Big moving forward in the season.
